People’s College Short Story
Competition
The People’s College is pleased to announce its very first writing
competition.
The competition is open to all, and past and present members of
the People’s College
as well as trade union members can avail of a reduced entry fee.
Entries will be accepted from 1 November 2006. The judge will be
renowned
Dublin author, Peter Sheridan. Winners will be announced in late
Spring and will
be published in the 2007 People’s College Creative Writing Group
Anthology.
First prize €350, second prize €250 and third prize of €150
Rules
- Entries will be accepted from November 1 2006
until February 28 2007 and should be addressed to People’s College
Writing Competition, 31 Parnell Square, Dublin 1
- The story should be the original and unpublished
work of the entrant.
- The name of the entrant must not appear anywhere
on the story so please include a separate sheet, showing name
and surname of entrant, full postal address, phone number, email
address if available, title of entry.
- Please also include entry fee as a cheque or
bank draft or postal order/money order made payable to People’s
College in the sum of €8 euro for first entry and €5 euro for
each subsequent entry by the same author. Past and present students
of the People’s College and trade union members’ fee is €5 for
the first entry and €3 for subsequent entries. This fee is to
offset administrative costs.
- There is no limit to the number of entries from
any one author.
- Stories can be on any subject and must not exceed
2500 words.
- They should be clearly typed, double spaced,
on one side of the paper only and securely fastened. Hand written
entries will not be accepted.
- Entries will not be returned, so competitors
should keep copies of their work.
- For acknowledgement of safe receipt of story
please enclose a stamped self-addressed postcard.
- Winners will be announced in April 2007 and
the judge’s decision will be final.
- Winning entries and runners-up will be published
in the 2007 anthology of the People’s College Creative Writing
Group.
